The University Board of Trustees recently approved a name change for the Division of Continuing Education, making it synonymous with the name of the building it manages and occupies: The William and Ida Friday Center for Continuing Education.
The change recognizes that the division and center are a single entity offering lifelong learning opportunities to adult and nontraditional students. It is named for William C. Friday, president of the consolidated University of North Carolina from 1956-86 and University Distinguished Professor at Carolina, and his wife, Ida, a former instructor in the School of Public Health.
