Shelley Clarke, SPA Staff, Latin American Studies

Nominating materials for Clarke said: "Shelley Clarke started as business manager at the Institute of Latin American Studies this past May. She recently completed her three-month probationary period, and her performance has been outstanding, to say the least. She has made this transition in personnel easy for all affiliated with the Institute by fearlessly tackling a steep learning curve while continuing to provide prompt, cheerful service. We haven't missed a beat! Thank you, Shelley."

Laura George, SPA Staff, Health Behavior and Health Education

Nominating materials for George said: "Laura George continually projects a positive attitude and a willingness to go beyond the confines of her job... Laura is a team player and always offers her help to other staff members when she sees that their workloads are particularly heavy. Finally, she is a model of patience with HBHE's more than 130 students and frequently visiting student alumni..."

Stephen Joyce, SPA Staff,Physics and Astronomy

Nominating materials for Joyce said: "Mr. Joyce was hired this year to take on the duties of systems administrator for the department, overseeing several graduate and undergraduate students who support the department's Unix, PC, and Macintosh computing platforms... Mr. Joyce has proven extremely effective in his tasks, and has devoted many working hours to seeing that this effort will be successful. Thank heavens he joined us to help."

Hugon Karwowski, EPA Faculty,Physics and Astronomy

Nominating materials for Karwowski, said: "Professor Karwowski is on leave this semester, a benefit from his Bowman and Gordon Gray Professorship for outstanding teaching. While Professor Karwowski formally resigned his position as assistant chair for graduate studies during his leave, he has nonetheless continued to advise the graduate students, and to stand up for them. Professor Karwowski has put his own programs aside because he cannot help but work for the graduate students singly and as a group."

Andrew Lang, SPA Staff, College of Arts & Sciences

Nominating materials for Lang said: "In his eight months here, he has been instrumental in establishing a group that serves faculty instructional technology needs and that serves College departmental needs to improve and maintain their web sites."

Mary Schlegel, EPA Faculty, Student Health Service

Nominating materials for Schlegel said: "Dr. Schlegel came to Student Health in January of this year. She has been instrumental, as the Director of the Women's Health Department, in the development and supervision of clinical and educational programs, which serve the Student Health Service population. Dr. Schlegel is seen throughout the Student Health Service as a teacher and role model for our students, residents, and fellows. She is a valued employee and we whole-heartedly recognize her devotion and hard work."
