A campuswide committee chose 2000 Teaching Award winners from nominations
submitted by students and faculty in the fall of 1999.
The committee also chose Carolina's finalists for the UNC Board of Governors'
Award for Excellence in Teaching, which goes to one faculty member at each UNC
system school. A Board of Governors panel chose Weldon Thornton, William R. and
Jeanne H. Jordan professor of English, as the University's recipient.
